National Movement

It was Vidwan P Kelu Nair paved the way to national movement in north Malabar when he returned home after his Vidwan examination passed from Pattambi Sanskrit College. First Congress Committee came into existence in 1925 as A.C. Kannan Nair and K.T. Kunhiraman Nambiar as its office bearers. Manthope ground at Puthiyakotta was the very centre of national agitation. The landlords and peasants of this area came forward in the non cooperation movement.
In 1926, Vidwan P.Kelu Nair founded Vijnanadayini Deseeya School at Vellikkoth near Kanhangad. A.C.Kannan Nair, K.T.Kunhiraman Nambiar, Damodara Bhaktha, E.Raghava Panikkar were the teachers who came forward as leaders. They participated in the State Congress Conference held at Payyannur in May 1928. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru presided over the conference. K.T.Kunhiraman Nambiar, V.M. Krishnan Nair, V.P.Krishnan Nair, Ambu and K.Madhavan participated in the Salt Satyagraha March in 1930 from Kozhikode to Payyannur.
